Manchester United are making significant progress on a deal for Ajax forward Justin Kluivert.
The Mirror report that the Reds are in advanced talks with Ajax over a deal worth £10m up front, though more eventually due to various add-ons, for the 18-year-old.
Kluivert, son of UEFA Champions League-winning Patrick, has made a big impact in the Netherlands since breaking brought into the Ajax side at a very young age.
It’s suggested that Man United manager Jose Mourinho spoke to Kluivert after the UEFA Europa League final. United beat Ajax 2-0 in Stockholm to complete their collection of trophies.
After full-time, Mourinho told Kluivert that he wished to sign him one day, or so claim the Mirror.
There’s no doubting the extraordinary talent of Kluivert. He’s a player rightly getting noticed for Ajax, and not just because of who his father is.
However, United don‘t lack young, promising and dynamic strikers. Marcus Rashford is just 20 while Anthony Martial is only 22 years old.
If a deal is to be done, though, it’d be an exciting one. That’d be particularly true if United can create a transfer that sees the majority of a few in add-ons. If a young player does fulfil those add-ons, then United are hardly reluctant not to pay it. If he doesn’t, then the initial overpriced asking fee isn’t as large as it would be without significant add-ons.
