Much like in the summer, Antonio Conte is growing increasingly frustrated with Chelsea’s failure to recruit a striker to help ease the load on Alvaro Morata in attack.
The Spaniard has enjoyed a good first season in English football thus far, but the £75m summer recruit from Real Madrid has struggled in recent weeks which has left Conte ruing the club’s failure to bring in a ‘Plan B’ in the last transfer window.
Conte watched Fernando Llorente join Premier League rivals Tottenham on transfer deadline day, leaving the Blues short-handed in attack, with just Michy Batshuayi as an alternative to Morata.
Batshuayi, not fancied by Conte, is a reported loan target for La Liga side Sevilla, but they are readying a contingency plan should they failed to bring in the Belgian, and it’s making a move for a top Chelsea target.
Estadio Deportivo report that Sevilla will move for West Ham striker Andy Carroll if they fail to land Batshuayi, which would be a real blow for the Blues as Conte wants to sign Carroll to be that ‘Plan B’ option.
West Ham fear Carroll, who wants to play more regularly, has had his head turned by the prospect of potentially joining Chelsea this month, but they would only consider a permanent transfer with Blues only looking at a loan deal.
