Man United's Rojo speaks about his relationship with Mourinho

Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo has praised his manager Jose Mourinho for bringing the best out of him during his time at the club.

Rojo joined the Red Devils during Louis Van Gaal‘s reign and has so far survived the Portuguese managers time, even excelling and impressing him.

Capable of playing at left-back and centre-back, his versatility actually didn’t help with Mourinho as the boss became frustrated with him in the full-back position.

He was soon shifted back into the centre of defence and played his best games in a United shirt last season in that position.

Unfortunately for Marcos, he survived a nasty injury during the club’s Europa League campaign and has only just recovered recently.

According to De Futbol Se Habla Asi, the Argentinian said: “He’s [Jose Mourinho] always happy, close to the players, he’s a very happy person, he helped me a lot, he got the best out of me.”

Since returning from his injury though, Rojo now finds himself further down the pecking order and will need to fight for his spot once more.

Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof are all his competitors but Mourinho does still seem to have a soft spot for Marcos.

Jose even thrusted him right into first team action rather than slowly introducing him back into the starting XI.

Bailly and Lindelof are two players who the Portuguese has personally invested in and so perhaps the Argentinian should be a little worried.

Jones is also another centre-back who has been hailed by the manager previously, having impressed during the start of the season.

Smalling may be the only defender who is a little dispensable to Mourinho, given the past criticism and sour relationship between the pair.
