Celtic Announce They Will Allow Brendan Rodgers To Speak To Arsenal

Celtic’s majority shareholder Dermot Desmond has announced that the Scottish side will allow Brendan Rodgers to speak to Arsenal if asked (via Sky Sports).

Now that the dust is starting to settle on Arsene Wenger’s decision to step down as Arsenal manager, the attention now switches to his replacement.

Everyone has their own opinion on who should be the next manager of the club and there are some clear frontrunners for the position.

The likes of Leonardo Jardim, Max Allegri and Joachim Loew have all been cited as potential targets, as has Brendan Rodgers.

Formerly of Liverpool, Rodgers has won two Scottish Championship titles and has been cited as a potential Wenger replacement.

“I’m glad he’s the favourite. He’s an outstanding person,” said Celtic’s majority shareholder, Dermot Desmond has spoken about that potential move.

“We wouldn’t want him to leave but we won’t force him to stay. Hopefully, his love for the club and the setup here will enduce him to stay at the club.

When asked if the Scottish side would allow any approach from Arsenal for Rodgers, Desmond replied: “Absolutely. I don’t think you can put handcuffs on anybody if they want to go to a club as good as Arsenal.

“It will be Brendan’s decision and his decision only.”

Brendan Rodgers wouldn’t be a popular appointment amongst many Arsenal fans. The former Liverpool boss is not highly thought of amongst large portions of the English football community.
