Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has carved out a career for himself away from his native country of Spain but Real Madrid are considering a summer move for the defender according to Mundo Deportivo, as cited by Talksport.
Following a £24m move from Fiorentina 18 months ago that was largely met with raised eyebrows, Alonso has been a regular in the Chelsea side and played a pivotal role in their Premier League winning campaign last season, netting six goals and providing three assists in 31 appearances.
The 27-year-old has been heavily relied upon by Antonio Conte during the Italian’s time at the club with no real backup to Alonso in the left wing-back role, but that’s not caused him to suffer fatigue or burnout with the former Bolton and Sunderland man on course to surpass last season’s goal tally having notched six already this season in 25 league games.
Nearly eight years after selling the defender to Bolton for just £2.1m, Real Madrid are eager to re-sign the fullback to provide competition for Marcelo on the left side of the defence but Chelsea aren’t ready to part ways with the player.
Alonso came through the youth ranks with Real, making just one appearance for the first-team as a late substitute against Racing Santander in April 2010, but the left-back has cemented himself as one of best fullbacks in the Premier League over the last two campaigns.
Chelsea did sign Emerson Palmieri from Roma in January to provide cover for Alonso at left wing-back but the Spaniard, who remains uncapped at senior international level, is the undisputed first-choice for Conte at that position. Madrid are also interested in signing Eden Hazard from Chelsea but the Belgian is strictly not for sale at any price.
