Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Anthony Martial will most likely miss out on Manchester United’s meeting with Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday.
The Frenchman, who has been sidelined for most of this season with a thigh injury, came off early during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa.
Solskjaer noted ahead of the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur that Martial, whose injury remains unspecified, would be out for “a little while”.
Speaking after the game, Solskjaer said: “I’m not sure. I don’t know.”
In his place up front will be Mason Greenwood, who netted his first Premier League goal against Sheffield United last month and performed with impressive maturity against Jose Mourinho’s side on Wednesday, producing a series of clever touches in the final third.
Come to think of it, Martial has rarely played well against City for some reason, whereas the prospect of Greenwood leading the line on Saturday brings very strong Marcus Rashford circa 2016 vibes.
You can only hope that, as Paul Pogba nears a return to action, there are no further injuries to major players.
