Arsenal legend, Ian Wright has hit out at the “panicky” nature of Arsenal’s transfer dealings this January window (via Sky Sports).
Arsenal have brought in more than a couple of ‘panic buys’ in the transfer market in the last couple of years.
From Kim Kallstrom to Danny Welbeck to that ridiculous final 24 hours of the transfer window in 2011 when they brought in five first-team players.
Most fans had assumed that those days were past but Arsenal legend, Ian Wright certainly doesn’t think so.
“Everything that is happening is being forced on them through other people,” he told Sky Sports.
“[Henrikh] Mkhitaryan is not a player Arsenal have been after – he’s a player that Arsenal have been handed.
“It’s the same with [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang – a couple of years ago, he was on everyone’s radar but now he’s gone a bit cold. Then all of a sudden, he’s on Arsenal’s radar – it all feels panicky for me.
“Of course they are both quality players. But if you are losing Sanchez, you need players that will hit the ground running. I’m not sure about Mkhitaryan’s state of mind right now.”
Of course, there is a great deal of panic about Arsenal’s current transfer policy. The contract situations surrounding Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have brought on that panic through poor management. However, there’s no doubt that the players Arsenal are being linked with signing are sheer quality and a step above the likes of Andre Santos and Kim Kallstrom. Arsenal may be panicking, but some good may come of it.
