Henrikh Mkhitaryan has demanded a pay rise from his current £150,000-a-week salary to join Arsenal this month, according to reports.
Manchester United entered pole position to sign Alexis Sanchez last week after offering a cash sum plus the services of Mkhitaryan, who has failed to make an impact at the Emirates so far this season.
The deal is likely to be a straight swap given that Sanchez only has six months left on his contract but any move, as revealed by Mino Raiola on Tuesday, is contingent on the Armenian agreeing to join Arsenal.
And according to the Mirror‘s John Cross, Mkhitaryan wants an improvement on his current £150,000-a-week deal to join Arsenal.
Raiola has stressed that his client hasn’t made a decision over his future yet and is in no rush to do so, but with Borussia Dortmund baulking at his transfer fee and Arsenal clearly desperate to sign him and offload Sanchez there are only two options available to him: rot at Old Trafford for six more months or move to the Emirates.
Negotiations over the money side are bound to be protracted with Raiola involved, and you can be sure the next few days – perhaps even longer – will be dominated by the agent working to give Mkhitaryan a healthy package that includes a big sum for him as well.
