Out-of-favour Manchester United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan would get into any Premier League side, Tim Sherwood has claimed.
The Armenian hasn’t played for Man United since coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 league victory at Old Trafford against Brighton & Hove Albion on November 25.
Mkhitaryan reportedly had a falling out with manager Jose Mourinho over the criticism he received in a video analysis session based on that game. His future at the club now looks uncertain.
Sherwood, though, believes Mkhitaryan would fit in well at Manchester City and any other side in the league, despite currently being out of the United team.
“I think one player Pep would take out of Manchester United is Mkhitaryan,” the Sky Sports pundit said recently.
“He might be available.
“Without doubt, he’s a Pep style player.
“He gets the ball half turn and drives at players. He’s a bit sharper than Ilkay Gundogan.
“He ticks it over, but he’s more of a maverick type.
“When he was at Dortmund, he was scary that’s why every team in the land wanted to have him, but he’s not getting the games now.”
Mkhitaryan’s ability isn’t in doubt, but the 28-year-old performances haven’t been good enough. Since arriving for just under £30m from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, Mkhitaryan has shown glimpses of world-class quality, but is yet to put in a consistent spell of performances of that level.
He may get his first chance since that Brighton game in today’s EFL Cup quarter-final against Bristol City, after Mourinho said “he can play”.
