Manchester United furious at Premier League club after development in player's move

Manchester United are reportedly furious with Crystal Palace with loan star Timothy Fosu-Mensah being given very few chances.

The Reds are set to recall Fosu-Mensah from his season-long loan deal in January.

The Netherlands international put in some impressive performances in his first few weeks on loan the Eagles, under manager Frank de Boer.

De Boer left to be replaced by Roy Hodgson, and Fosu-Mensah’s first team minutes have deteriorated significantly.

The 19-year-old has made a solid nine Premier League appearances this season, a reasonable number for a young defender, but hasn’t appeared since the start of November when Palace were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur.

He’s been on the bench for the most recent four consecutive games.

The Sun suggest United’s anger over his lack of chances will translate into Fosu-Mensah returning to Old Trafford in January before Jose Mourinho looks for another loan move for his young prospect.

It’s another frustrating loan move for a United player. The Reds have had many of those recently. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, who broke through with Fosu-Mensah under Louis van Gaal, had a torrid spell at Wolves last season where he didn’t play for months but was never recalled.

Now he’s on loan at Leeds United, and hasn’t been in a matchday squad for some time. Devonte Redmond is on loan at Scunthorpe United and has got very chances all season for the League One side.

It’s always a risk loaning a player to a relegation-threatened side. The manager is likely to change, as it did at Palace, and can leave a player in the lurch, as it has done. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, though.
