Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was in full praise for his players after a hard fought display against the Gunners at the Emirates resulted in a 3-1 win for the away team.
Arsene Wenger clashed with his nemesis but it was the Portuguese manager who had the last laugh as a Jesse Lingard double and an Antonio Valencia goal meant the Red Devils walked away with the valuable three points.
United knew that nothing short of victory would put pressure on their cross-town rivals Manchester City but still came up with the goods.
Now just five points behind the Sky Blues who have a game in hand, Mourinho will need his side to beat City when they face them in the upcoming fixture.
However, Jose was just focussed on this incredible match when interviewed after and had nothing but good words to say to his players.
Speaking after the game, the former Chelsea manager said: “It was a phenomenal game. I love the way my team played and fought. My players deserve all the great words.
“When we had the ball, we had to counter attack fast and to score goals, which we did. They can say they had chances but we fought and we have a great goalkeeper too.”
Manchester United had numerous players to thank for their hard earned win and hardly put a foot wrong in a rather convincing win.
Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Antonio Valencia, Jesse Lingard, David de Gea and Ashley Young all impressed, keeping the Gunners at bay for as long as possible.
Pogba though was sent off after stamping on Arsenal’s full-back Hector Bellerin, leaving United to play with ten men for the latter stages of the game.
Replays showed the referees decision was correct and that Paul’s tackle was not intentional or malicious but just badly carried out.
The victory in the end proved to be bitter-sweet, having won a crucial three points but losing the star Frenchman for the clash against Manchester City.
