Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has revealed that he expects the club to bring in new players in the January transfer window, with the Independent reporting that the Italian has prioritised signing a forward who can operate anywhere along the front line.
The Blues boss was slightly disappointed with the recruitments made in the summer transfer window and wants to strengthen his squad in January.
Conte is looking to bring in a forward as he has struggled during the absence of Spanish striker Alvaro Morata. Belgian playmaker Eden Hazard has had to deputise as a ‘false nine’ recently and Conte wants to bring in a striker to cover for Morata.
Conte said:
I’m very happy to work with these players. At the same time, if there is the possibility to improve our squad, I think the club will try to do this.
A difficult period is starting, especially for every club, for every coach. In this period there are a lot of rumours. I think the best way for me is not to read [anything] and then to try to improve our squad if this is possible. If, I repeat, this is possible.
The London club are currently third in the Premier League table and are 14 points behind table-topping Manchester City.
