Luke Shaw has decided to remain at Manchester United over the January transfer window and fight for his place in the starting XI under Jose Mourinho after relations between the pair improved in recent weeks, according to reports.
The Englishman was tipped for a move away next month after only managing two appearances from the bench in the Carabao Cup by December.
But he was promised by Mourinho that he would continue to receive opportunities in the aftermath of a superb performance against CSKA Moscow last week – his first start since April.
And according to the Mirror‘s Mark Jones, the 22-year-old, named in the squad for the Manchester derby, will continue to fight for places in the side this season after turning a corner in his relationship with the boss, who has sensed a change in his attitude over the last few weeks.
Man United desperately need Shaw to break his vicious cycle of injury followed by anonymity and produce the kind of effervescence seen against CSKA on a regular basis.
For the first time in what feels like eons, we saw a glimpse of what Shaw can offer this United side: devastating pace, nimble control of the ball, discipline at the back, a sense of urgency.
But with just 32 Premier League appearances under his belt in three and a half years, you can’t help but doubt whether Shaw can serve as a reliable first choice option this season.
