Manchester United have offered Marouane Fellaini a two-year contract in a last ditch attempt to keep him at the club beyond this season, according to reports.
The Belgian, who signed a one year extension back in January, will be free to speak with other clubs about a possible free transfer next month.
Reports have claimed that Fellaini rejected another one year deal tabled by the club in September amid interest from the likes of Besiktas, Galatasaray, Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain, prompting Jose Mourinho into admitting that the 29-year-old could leave at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
And according to IBTimes‘ Dan Cancian, the club will put forward an improved offer and break their policy of only giving players over 30 one year rolling contracts to keep Fellaini at the club.
You sense that Fellaini is leaning closer towards the exit door rather than another season at Old Trafford, and perhaps there’s nothing any sum of money could do about that.
After five years in Manchester, the Belgian may indeed just fancy a new challenge elsewhere, or even more money. And at the age of 30 he knows that his next big deal will be his last. And his current club, which will need to invest further in the midfield over the next year, may not be able to offer a package eclipsing all of his other potential suitors.
