Newell’s Old Boys have dismissed claims that Manchester United have made an offer to sign young midfielder Luciano Cingolani.
An odd story broke recently where Cingolani’s father claimed he would bring Newell’s an offer from Man United as he tried to take his son away from the Argentinian side.
The club secretary has denied that. Cingolani plays for Newell’s under-16 side in the Argentinian Septima Division. El Dia claims United want to sign him.
Given rules over signing young players, Cingolani couldn’t join United for some years yet, even if the Reds are interested in bringing him to England at this age.
Jose Menchon, club secretary, revealed the news about Cingolani’s father, but said no offer has been received for the player.
“The case of Cingolani is very particular because the father wanted to take him away, then he said he was going to bring an offer from Manchester United, but no offer came to the club,” Menchon said.
It’s rare, and wrong, for a transfer of a player so young to be discussed on a global stage. But, according to Menchon, it is because the club recently lost academy product Castro to rivals Boca Juniors.
This is the second peculiar story about United to come from Argentina in recent weeks, with second division left-back Enzo Diaz linked a short while ago.
