There haven’t been many players at Real Madrid that have played better than Marco Asensio over the last 18 months or so.
After an impressive loan spell with Espanyol, Asensio has broken into the Madrid first-team since the start of last season, scoring 17 goals in 57 games across all competitions from an advanced midfield role.
The 21-year-old has featured in every La Liga game so far this season but he’s only made eight starts, completing the 90 minutes just six times which is a cause for concern for the young Spaniard.
Asensio wants to play more minutes for Madrid and assume a bigger role in the side and he’s threatened to leave the club for Chelsea should that not happen.
It’s believed that Asensio has seen the success that his close friend and former Real Madrid teammate Alvaro Morata has had at Stamford Bridge this season and that if he was to leave the Bernabeu then Chelsea would be an ideal destination.
Having signed a six-year deal in September, however, it’s unlikely that Real Madrid have any plans to sell one of the best young players anytime soon.
