Manchester United’s star midfielder Paul Pogba featured vs Basel in the Champions League and clearly impressed the club’s supporters.
The Frenchman has missed a number of the Red Devils’ recent fixtures due to injury but returned in the match vs Newcastle and made a second consecutive start vs the Swiss side.
Playing in a less restricted role, the midfielder was unshackled from defensive responsibilities and seemed to react positively to that.
Starting the season in fine form, many expected Pogba to return from his injury unable to continue the good displays but the former Juventus man put those concerns to bed.
Although United went into the break unable to convert their fair few of shots, Paul was clearly head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates.
Sick of forwards bottling Pogba's assists. So many moments of brilliance go unnoticed from Pogba as our forwards can't score simple chances. Frustrating.

Pogba is absolutely bossing the midfield. What a player

Pogba's putting on a show already. A no-look pass, step-overs – pitch doesn't seem to be bothering him

Pogba United's best player again. Lingard busy on the right but Martial not really in the game. Lots of diagonal balls aimed at Fellaini's head.

Decent half from United. Didn't look in any real danger and just lacked the goal. Basel haven't really turned up. Pogba so much fun to watch. #mufc

The clear highlight of this game so far has been Pogba's ball control. He makes split-second decision-making look so easy at times. #MUFC

Jose Mourinho is well aware that he’ll need his key man fit and raring to go for the rest of the season if Old Trafford wish to see any type of silverware by the end of May.
Giving the talented midfielder some more minutes to catch up to his peak fitness was the correct move to make and Pogba delivered too.
The French international must’ve been upset with his colleague’s after they failed to convert some delightfully placed passes.
Although the Red Devils weren’t at their free flowing best attacking wise, they did create enough chances to give them the lead before half time, most of which were made by Paul.
With Basel keeping most of their men behind the ball, it was up to United to break them apart and the team did rely on Pogba to do so, which he did successfully.
