Jose Mourinho has identified Gareth Bale, Antoine Griezmann, Emil Forsberg and Carlos Soler as his four main targets ahead of next summer’s transfer window, according to reports from Spain.
The Portuguese came close to securing the services of Griezmann back in June and publicly expressed interest in signing Bale from Real Madrid ahead of the UEFA Super Cup.
He was present for Sweden’s World Cup playoff win over Italy to monitor Forsberg, who earned the ‘Man of the Match’ award with a powerful display out wide, whilst various Spanish outlets have claimed that United were lining up a £30m bid for Soler.
And according to SPORT, Mourinho will set his sights on bringing the quartet to Old Trafford following the 2017/18 campaign.
For all the noise surrounding United’s lack of potency going forward over the last month, they are the second highest goal-scorers in the Premier League. As Mourinho put it himself: “not bad”.
But he will know, deep down, that the options at his disposal are still not enough. Failure to sign Ivan Perisic over the summer left United without a proper winger and recent defeats at Huddersfield Town and Chelsea revealed just how damaging that can be.
A clear avenue through which to attack – one that would help Romelu Lukaku tenfold – is not available to United at this moment in time, and Mourinho, as a result, ought to prioritise landing Bale and Forsberg before anything else once the season is up.
