Chelsea recovered from going a goal down early on against Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge to record an ultimately convincing 4-1 win.
Frank Lampard’s Blues were shellshocked early on as last season’s bogey team started the match full of purpose and endeavour. Blades striker David McGoldrick put the visitors ahead after nine minutes, a lead they deserved at that point.
However, undeterred by the away side’s fast start, resulting in the loss of a fabulous run of clean sheets, the in-form Blues dominated the match thereafter.
First-half goals from Tammy Abraham and Ben Chilwell put Lampard’s men in the lead before the break, albeit Chilwell’s rather hit him as opposed to a measured finish.
Striving for a third goal to put the game beyond doubt, the Blues finally got the reward for their pressure when Thiago Silva’s glancing header made it 3-1.
Moments later, summer arrival Timo Werner pounced on a misplaced backpass to fire in his now-customary goal and a fourth for Chelsea on the night.
Lampard’s men now sit fifth in the Premier League going into the international break.
Here’s how we rated the victors…
