Mikel Arteta has spoken about the summer transfer planning Arsenal are currently undergoing and the contract status of Bukayo Saka (via Arsenal.com).
It’s clear that the planning for transfer windows gets underway long before things actually open in the summer.
That much is certainly true for Arsenal right now as the club prepares for the first full summer window with new head coach Mikel Arteta.
It’s clear that this is going to be a huge summer for Arsenal but Arteta has stated that the club is on top of the matter.
“We have to plan and we need to know the direction we want to head and with that we need to bear in mind different scenarios and with that in mind,” Arteta said in his pre-match press conference.
“I have to tell the club what we need, where we think we can improve and where we want to end. And if we all end with the same thing, we put a plan together to try and execute it and make the process as short as possible.”
Arteta was also asked about Bukayo Saka amid reports that contract talks between the club and the player have stalled.
“I am really happy with how they [young players] are developing,” Arteta went on.
“Part of that developing is to improve the contract and to tie them to the club. But that has to follow a natural process.
“We have Edu, we have Raul, Vinai and Huss who are in charge of that and I am sure we will do the right thing when players deserve to improve and extend their contracts.”
It’s clear that this is going to be a huge summer window for Arsenal. Perhaps the news about Manchester City will give the Gunners a better chance of reaching the Champions League next season. That would certainly make for a better summer window.
