Another woeful Arsenal performance was saved by substitute Nicolas Pepe.

Team News – Match Reports – Player Ratings
Match: Arsenal v Vitoria
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (UK Time): 20:00 24/10/2019
—–
Here’s how we rate the Arsenal players:
Emiliano Martinez – 4
He hardly covered himself in glory this evening. Emiliano Martinez looked a little shaky at the back in what was probably his worst performance of the season.
Hector Bellerin – 5.5
Hector Bellerin is not quite back to his best. The Spaniard got caught out of position on a couple of occasions and offered little moving forward before that pull back to Gabriel Martinelli in the second half. He’s not quite ready for Premier League action just yet based on this performance.
Shkodran Mustafi – 6.5
He did well. Shkodran Mustafi put in an assured performance at the back for much of this match but some errors crept into his game as it progressed. The German had a couple of excellent passes out from the back which really caught the eye.
Rob Holding – 5
Rob Holding’s evening started poorly when he was skinned in his own penalty area inside the opening 10 minutes. He did improve but the Englishman looked a little laboured all night long.
Kieran Tierney – 7
He did well. Kieran Tierney was one of Arsenal’s biggest threats in the attack and put in a wonderful cross for Gabriel Martinelli’s header. He’s one of the few Arsenal players to impress this evening.
Lucas Torreira – 5.5
Lucas Torreira had his moments this evening. The Uruguayan got into the thick of the action and made one memorable pass for Joe Willock which led to Martinelli’s first-half header. Aside from that, it was difficult to say how well he played. Either his role in the team evolved as the match progressed or he failed to stick to his position all night long. It was a strange one
Joe Willock – 5.5
Joe Willock didn’t have his best match of the season but he certainly wasn’t the worst play on the pitch in that first half. He was a little unfortunate to have been substituted.
Sub: Dani Ceballos (45′) – 4
He was woeful at times in the second half. Dani Ceballos couldn’t get going after coming off the bench. The Spaniard just seemed to be giving the ball away at times.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 4
He did play well. If Ainsley Matiland-Niles wants to play central midfield on a long-term basis then his performance level is going to have to start improving. He made a dreadful error for the second goal and just looked a little flat-footed all night.
Sub: Matteo Guendouzi (45′) – 6
Matteo Guendouzi really came alive as the match progressed. The Frenchman made a couple of lung-busting runs to drive his side forward.
Emile Smith Rowe – 6
Emile Smith Rowe dropped out of the match after half time but he stood out in the first 45 minutes. The Englishman had some moments of real quality and probably should’ve scored at least one of his opportunities.
Gabriel Martinelli – 6
The Brazilian again showed flashes of quality – particularly his ability in the air. Gabriel Martinelli’s goal was a piece of real class from the young forward. Unfortunately, he didn’t really kick on after that and drifted out of the match. Still, he probably should’ve added a second goal from that Hector Bellerin cut back.
Alexandre Lacazette – 3.5
He was really poor. Alexandre Lacazette had a woeful first half and the frustration seemed to tarnish his second.
Sub: Nicolas Pepe (75′) – 8.5
What an impact from the Ivorian. Nicolas Pepe won the game for Arsenal almost single-handedly with those freekicks. The club’s record signing made a big impact in a short space of time to secure the three points for the Gunners.
