Chelsea punished Burnley in a rather one-sided affair at Turf Moor, disposing of the Clarets by four goals to two, despite their best efforts to clinch the game late on.
A man of the match performance from Christian Pulisic saw Frank Lampard’s men extend their winning streak to seven games, a run of form that has surpassed expectations.
Chelsea entered the game coming off the back of a heroic victory in Amsterdam on Wednesday, and the Blues had pressure on them to continue their current run of form. An away fixture against Burnley is tough for any side, but for Lampard’s youngsters, the challenge seemed greater than usual.
This, however, was not the case for Chelsea, as they dispatched four goals with great conviction. Lampard’s men have now won their last seven games, making them the most in-form team in Europe.
Pulisic made his first start for Chelsea, and delivered in style, netting himself a perfect hat-trick which almost guaranteed the three points, and treated the Chelsea fans to an Eden Hazard-like performance in the process. Willian made it four, with a superb strike that flew past Nick Pope and sealed the deal for the Blues. Burnley pulled two back, but it was too late for the Clarets, as Chelsea had taken the game out of their grasp.
Many have doubted Pulisic so far this season, labeling him as lonely, and suggesting that he doesn’t fit in with the Chelsea players. Fikayo Tomori was the first to shut this rumour down, posting a video on his Instagram account cheering for the American. Pulisic has himself also proved the rumours to be false, as he looks to have settled into life at Stamford Bridge.
The victory for Chelsea now puts them just five points from the Premier League top spot.
