Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Paul Pogba will not be risked against Newcastle United due to a foot injury.
The Frenchman, who initially suffered the injury against Southampton, returned in time to feature against Rochdale and Arsenal.
However, it was confirmed by the club that Pogba’s injury would require “conservative” treatment after it was aggravated against the Gunners.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the game, Solskjaer confirmed that the club would not consider playing the Frenchman until after the international break.
“Paul? Probably not. There’s the international break to come and that might be the time to give them 10-14 days extra to get them ready for the Liverpool game.”
When asked about whether any players would return in time for the Newcastle clash, the boss said: “Probably not [but] let’s see on Saturday morning.”
The Norwegian did not sound optimistic, meaning that Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw – on top of long-term absentees Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah – could all miss out.
