Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has suggested there may be no need for a director of football despite fans’ calls for someone adequate to be hired.
Most supporters feel the board have consistently failed since joining the club but especially after Sir Alex Ferguson’s genius could no long paper over the cracks.
David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho all failed under the leadership of the board and so criticism is warranted.
With fans believing Woodward’s lack of footballing background proving key to his poor decision-making, it’s understandable why there were calls for a director of football to be installed.
United were believed to be working on hiring someone for quite some time now but it seems that may no longer be the case.

Of course if it really is the club’s intentions to not hire a director of football they can never really outright say it as it would upset a lot of people.
Instead, it makes more sense to hint that’s the case, hope the club’s form is great and so the need for a director of football would die down and disappear.
It’s tough to argue with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer work this season but fans do still have issues with why he wasn’t sufficiently backed with more signings, particularly after a few outgoings such as Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
