Gary Neville reveals who he thinks will be Man United's player of the season

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has backed Paul Pogba to be the club’s player of the season in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer first full campaign as manager.

The dazzling Frenchman was linked and is actually still linked with a potential move away to Real Madrid despite it appearing as though he will remain at Old Trafford.

Pogba started the season fantastically by assisting twice during United’s 4-0 demolition of Chelsea but he subsequently missed a penalty against Wolves that costed his side the win.

Critics argued it was clear evidence of his inconsistencies but it’s safe to say the skill he pulled off to win the penalty in the first place was sensational.

Pogba is the Red Devils only real, top quality midfielder and as such a lot relies on him performing well throughout the season.

According to Manchester Evening News, Neville said: “I think he could be the player of the year. That sounds like a bold statement.

“He has the potential to be the best player in this league. He has the biggest personality in this league.

“Manchester United’s season rests a lot on him depending on how well he plays. I think he could be the player of the year, he is the one to watch for me.

“A lot of success for United depends on him and whether he can reach his real high standard.”

Scott McTominay has been a good partner alongside Pogba throughout pre-season but early suggestions are Manchester United’s engine room isn’t strong enough.

Solskjaer has opted to play a 4-2-3-1 formation which relies heavily on the two central-midfielders being top quality players.

Against Wolves, United’s attacking-midfield seemed to be lacking in particular with Jesse Lingard incurring the wrath of the fans post-match so perhaps the legendary Norwegian should considering investing there in the winter.
