The BBC’s David Ornstein has suggested that the Kroenkes may have started invested big in Arsenal (via the BBC).
Arsenal fans were rather pessimistic about their summer transfer business beforehand but looking back, almost everyone will agree they did extraordinary things.
The six signings made by the Gunners will all improve the squad with the club investing big in some key areas.
It marked a big change for Arsenal. Gunners fans have been highly critical of owner Kroenke Sports Entertainment (KSE) for a failure to invest but the BBC’s David Ornstein has hinted that the situation may have changed.
“When I asked Josh Kroenke if KSE had invested their own money, he wouldn’t elaborate, he wouldn’t go into details. He said it is a private matter,” David Ornstein told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“The Kroenkes have never invested a penny of their own money since their involvement began in 2007. That would mark a step change because they have always been allied to this self-sustaining model.
“We go back to the point about whether they wanted to push the boat out and fully commit in recruitment when somebody else – Alisher Usmanov – had a significant stake in the club.
“They have been spending quite significantly since they took full control. Also, in a respectful way, I do get the feeling they were more ready to invest significantly in the post-Arsene Wenger era. When they could mould the club structure around their own ideas rather than the all-powerful manager.”
It would make a marked change for Arsenal Football Club. For years, the fans’ biggest criticism of owners KSE was the lack of investment but if that is changing then that would be huge. The club has a long way to go to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United but still, this is hugely promising.
