Manchester United may have to go all out if they wish to get their reported key target in Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be keen on improving his midfield options whether or not Paul Pogba remains.
The Portuguese star is thought to be the ideal incoming signing as his goals from midfield are something United have lacked over recent years.
Pogba is the only one who can truly provide from range and having the duo playing together will certainly improve Solskjaer’s squad.
However, that dream scenario may not come true given the Portuguese club’s ambitions for a rather large fee.
According to the Express, club president Frederico Varandas said: “It [Fernandes sale] could be the most expensive sale of Sporting.
“The most expensive so far was João Mário, for €40m (£36m). There have been only talks for Bruno Fernandes, for now.
“I can only say that if a player leaves that can earn us millions, we will be prepared to attack the market. Always in a sustained way.”
Fernandes isn’t British but he does fit Solskjaer’s transfer policy given he’s young, talented and full of potential.
He would be Manchester United’s first non-British signing of the summer but perhaps his numbers can’t be ignored.
Bruno managed over 20 goals across all competitions and given Ole’s squad’s failures in front of goal last season, he would be needed.
United were said to be hoping to use the player’s interest to their own benefit as they’re keen for the attacking-midfielder to force his way out in order to reduce his asking price.
Whether that will work remains to be seen and this appears to be a transfer that won’t be concluded swiftly.
