Christian Pulisic has been on Chelsea’s books for some time now since he was announced in the January transfer window.
He was expected to complement Eden Hazard, but now Real Madrid have agreed a deal in principle to sign him, and it looks as though the former Borussia Dortmund star will have to take on a lot more responsibility than first thought.
Former Chelsea and England forward Shaun Wright-Phillips has spoken to 888sport, as reported by Goal, about how Pulisic just needs to think about himself and not worry about filling any such gap Chelsea fans may expect him to following Hazard’s proposed departure.
He said:
He’s there to bring another way of playing for Chelsea and he will create his own footprints basically and build his own legacy there at the Bridge[…] he is definitely a player the fans will like. In America he is rated very, very highly.
At only 20-years-old and having never played in England before, it would be demanding to expect Pulisic to blow away supporters from the get-go, but what he could offer is excitement and raw talent which, with good coaching, could get Chelsea fans off their seats.
Pulisic will be determined to kickstart his Blues career by flourishing at the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign in the Premier League.
