Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has declared that he has ‘no interest’ in selling the club, despite reports of a potential takeover from Britain’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Ratcliffe, who has an estimated net worth of £21billion, was rumoured to have had a £2billion offer rejected for the London club last year, however he remains interested in pursuing a deal.
The 66 year old recently said “you never say know” when asked by BBC Sport about whether he was still interested in buying the Blues, with Ratcliffe going on to say he wasn’t in a hurry to be done with football investment.
Despite this interest however, ESPN claim to have spoken to a source close to Abramovich who claimed that the Russian oligarch has never spoken to Ratcliffe, and remains committed to the club, who he bought in 2003 for £140million.
Questions had been raised over Abramovich’s commitment to Chelsea, after the Russian was refused a UK visa renewal. Abramovich had also stopped paying up front for his own corporate box at Stamford Bridge this season, and has not attended any home games this season.
The 52 year old also halted a £1billion proposal to redevelop the Bridge, seemingly indefinitely.
Marina Granovskaia is responsible for the day to day running of the club, and currently oversees the operations on Abramovich’s behalf.
