Maurizio Sarri has revealed midfielder N’Golo Kante could miss Chelsea’s last two games of the season with a hamstring problem, but could be fit for the Europa League final should the Blues progress.
Kante was substituted just 10 minutes into Chelsea’s clash with Watford on Sunday afternoon, after going down off the ball clutching his hamstring.
The midfielder is the latest Blues player to pick up an injury in the latter stages of the season, with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Antonio Rudiger both picking up season ending injuries in the last month.
And according to Football.London, Chelsea boss Sarri revealed after the victory over Watford that he “made a mistake” in playing Kante.
[The] problem is with his hamstring. I think I made a mistake because probably today he had to rest. Sometimes its difficult to put him on the bench, a player so important like Hazard and Kante but you have to do it. Otherwise you risk and I have to say I made a mistake.
We must wait for tomorrow but I think it’s difficult to recover him for the last two matches, but we want to play the final so we will try to recover him for that.
Chelsea host Eintracht Frankfurt in the second-leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday, looking to build on the 1-1 draw from the first-leg last week and progress to the final in Baku.
Kante looks set to miss both Thursday’s tie against Frankfurt and the Blues’ final game of the season against Leicester City.
