Chelsea transfer target and Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes is said to be closing in on a move to join Manchester City.
The 24-year-old playmaker has made 49 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese club, scoring 28 goals and assisting 16 times; an impressive return for the player who looks to be Premier League bound.
His success this season has captured the eye of City, as well as some interest from their rivals Manchester United, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Evening News also writes that Fernandes would come in as a creative playmaker to fill German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan’s absence should he leave the Etihad this summer.
With David Silva’s contract also expiring next year, it seems as though City are looking for some firepower in midfield to help bolster the squad for the coming years.
Portuguese teammate and City midfield maestro Bernardo Silva has even spoken on the situation, applauding his success this season. Speaking with O Jogo, as cited on the Manchester Evening News, he said:
Bruno is a great player. He has made a fantastic season with many goals, many assists that are not normal for a player of his position, he has the spearhead numbers and we will see what happens at the end of the season.
With a transfer ban still looming for Chelsea, the Blues may have to direct their interest elsewhere.
