Chelsea officials have reportedly been left ‘baffled and unimpressed’ by Maurizio Sarri’s decision to leave out Eden Hazard against Frankfurt on Thursday night, according to The Times, cited by Football 365.
The same report adds that Sarri will meet with owner Roman Abramovich and director Marina Granovskaia at the end of the season to discuss the 60-year-old’s future at Stamford Bridge.
Sarri shocked the Blues fans and board by deciding to rest Chelsea’s standout performer in the semi-final first leg, with Hazard scoring 16 times and providing 13 assists in 35 Premier League appearances so far.
The Italian’s controversial decision didn’t backfire as many were expecting, with Chelsea coming away from Germany with a 1-1 draw, thanks to Pedro’s vital away goal in first-half stoppage time.
Hazard did replace Willian for the final half hour, and the Belgian is expected to take his place in the starting line-up once again on Sunday against Watford.
