Manchester United have registered their interest in signing Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye this summer, according to reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must reinforce his midfield options after Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera both left the club in the space of five months.
Other targets so far have included Tanguy Ndombele, Declan Rice and Adrien Rabiot, although Man United’s emphasis appears to be on signing Swansea City winger Daniel James and securing a central defender.
According to the Liverpool Echo and Manchester Evening News, Everton want £35m for the midfielder. Man United are not willing to pay that amount and will jettison any potential move should Everton refuse to budge on their valuation.
#mufc are admirers of Idrissa Gueye. Everton want around £35m. If they persist with that price-tag then it will be the end of any potential move #mulive [liverpool echo, men]

For all the talk about full-backs and defenders and wide players, United’s arguably greatest long-term problem stems from midfield. Do you build it around Paul Pogba, or does he play further forward? Do you play with a pivot? A trio? Does Nemanja Matic remain first choice? Where’s the pressing energy going to come from? How do you achieve balance with Pogba and Fred in the same starting XI? Does the midfield look to dominate the ball or does it press?
Such a multitude of questions demands not just new personnel but indeed a whole strategy regarding how the midfield should look going forward.
