Benfica president Domingos Soares has made it clear that Manchester United can only sign striker Joao Felix this summer if they activate the teenager’s €120m release clause.
Man United are on the search for a new forward this summer amid doubts over Romelu Lukaku’s future. Nicolas Pepe, who scored 21 goals for Lille last season, is also on the radar after it was confirmed he would leave the Ligue 1 side ahead of next season.
Felix is an even brighter prospect: just 19-years old, playing a central role for a title-winning Benfica side, scoring 20 goals in his first season at senior level. He is a live wire, swerving and jinking his way into the box in a way which feels miles away from the lumbering presence of Lukaku.
Benfica’s president has given potential suitors, of which there are many, an ultimatum: pay the €120m fee or forget it.

United have a choice to make. Firstly, do they want to stick with Lukaku? If the answer is no, they must then ask themselves whether spending over £100m on a teenager from Portugal is a risk worth taking.
The goals dried up in miserable fashion towards the end of last season and Solskjaer, in response, must find the right profile ahead of pre-season.
