Chelsea will likely rival Manchester United for the signature of Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez this summer, with the Spanish side having put him up for sale.
Rodriguez has been on loan with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich since the summer of 2017, and he is due to return to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on June 15.
However, manager Zinedine Zidane isn’t keen on reintroducing Rodriguez into the fold in Madrid, and will let the Colombia international leave for a cut-price £36million deal.
According to Marca, as cited by Express Sport, Bayern Munich will be given first refusal until June 15 but should they opt to pass up on the chance to sign Rodriguez, Chelsea and United are expected to fight for him.
If both Chelsea and United are willing to match the requested fee, the decision could go to Rodriguez, which is where Champions League qualification could be vital.
