Chelsea defender issues warning to Liverpool ahead of Sunday's clash

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta admits he wants to spoil Liverpool’s title ‘party’ again on Sunday, having done so before in 2014.

During the 2013/14 season, Liverpool appeared to be on the brink of Premier League glory, however Jose Mourniho’s Chelsea dashed their hopes at Anfield, winning 2-0 in a game featured Steven Gerrard’s notorious slip that sent Demba Ba through on goal.

The Blues’ victory allowed Manchester City to steal a march on the title run in, and Liverpool weren’t able to fight back their position.

And Azpilicueta, the only surviving player to have started on that day in April 2014, is keen to prevent the Reds from winning their first Premier League title once more.

While last time, Chelsea’s game plan included soaking up pressure before hitting back on the counter, Azpilicueta believes that under Sarri, Chelsea will be more aggressive in their approach. As reported by MailOnline, Azpilicueta said:

It is not about frustrating Liverpool, it is about playing our game. When we went there they had the party nearly ready because they were smashing every team in Anfield. We arrived with a very clear idea and we did the game we had to do in that moment.

To beat that team, they were getting very good results, to beat them 2-0 was a very important win for the club, for the fans. Everyone enjoyed that day and hopefully we can replicate it on Sunday.

We know that we are playing against a strong side, but first of all we need to keep the solidity that we have shown in the last games, defend very well as a team because they are a big threat. Then, if we take our chances, we can win the game.

We have proved ourselves already at Anfield this season when we won there in the League Cup.

Records are nice but we have to hold them. Whatever you did in the past is nice because we have had very good results at Anfield, but we have to prove ourselves again on Sunday.
