Chelsea have been given a welcome boost ahead of Sunday’s trip to face Liverpool at Anfield with the news that Joe Gomez has been ruled out of the game.
Liverpool have been without Gomez since he fractured his leg in December but the England international is now back in full training.
However, speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final matchup with FC Porto, Jurgen Klopp said he will give Gomez another week or two before he selects him for a competitive fixture.
The defender started the season in impressive form at centre-back, leading to many tipping him to be a favourite to be voted as the league’s young player of the year, but his unfortunate injury ended any hopes of him getting that accolade.
However, Liverpool will be keen to get him back sooner rather than later, but for now, it’ll be either Joel Matip or Dejan Lovren partnering Virgil van Dijk at the back against Chelsea, fitness permitting.
