Chelsea assistant manager Gianfranco Zola has challenged Eden Hazard to smash his personal goalscoring record this season ahead of a crucial Premier League run-in.
Hazard has just surpassed the six-and-a-half season mark for his stint at Chelsea, the same time Zola played at Stamford Bridge between 1996 and 2003, but has already scored 22 more goals than the club great.
The Blues enter the final 10 Premier League matches of the season in a closely-contested battle for a Champions League place next season, and the Italian has urged Hazard to make a difference whilst speaking to Sky Sports.
He is a fantastic player, extremely good. He has unbelievable potential and he is getting better each season. It is a pleasure to be on the bench and see him playing for you, as he is one of those players who makes things happen. I am pleased he is going to be breaking the previous best stats records in the club, but I am not surprised as I see what he can do.
The Belgium international’s best goalscoring season at Chelsea came in 2016/17 where he contributed 16 goals and five assists. He currently sits on 12 goals and 11 assists this term and is showing no signs of slowing down.
After Maurizio Sarri’s side were on the end of a 6-0 thumping against Manchester City last month, hopes of finishing in the top four were squashed but a win at home to Wolves later day would see Chelsea move up to fourth.
