Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness believes Maurizio Sarri made a mistake in recalling Kepa Arrizabalaga to the starting lineup against Fulham, and claimed it sums up modern day football.
According to the Daily Mail, Souness was critical of Sarri’s decision to pick Kepa so soon after the Carabao Cup incident in which the Chelsea goalkeeper refused to come off as a substitute.
The Spaniard was fined in the aftermath and dropped for the Blues’ midweek victory over Tottenham, before Sarri restored him to the starting lineup for Sunday’s derby with Fulham.
Souness, however, revealed on Sky Sports prior to the game that he believes the Chelsea boss made the wrong decision.
The bigger picture is you’re standing in the dressing room as the manager and he had to make a stand. I would have left him out of this game and beyond. It was a sad reflection on where we are with the modern player. He’s 24, done nothing in the game and feels he can challenge the manager like that.
Chelsea can close the gap to Manchester United to two points with victory at Fulham on Sunday.
