Manchester United star Edinson Cavani’s role in the comeback win vs Southampton couldn’t be overstated and the statistics suggest he’s fully deserving of his performance and result.
The experienced Uruguayan came on at half-time for Mason Greenwood and his influence was absolutely sensational.
Cavani was instrumental in the win, grabbing an assist and two goals as United overcame Southampton 3-2 having been trailing 2-0 at half-time.
Huge question marks were being asked of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the break and given how he hauled Greenwood off, some felt he’d lost the plot.
In the end it proved to be the right call and what may have essentially saved his job and he has Cavani to thank for that.

When Cavani signed as a free agent on deadline day, many questioned whether it was the right decision given his age and injury record.
Given how he was available to sign all summer long but only joined at the last minute, there were those who wondered if Solskjaer even wanted him.
It’s safe to say even if he didn’t want Cavani before, he does want him now after what was a sensational 45 minutes.
The talented striker will now cast his eyes on facing his former side PSG in the Champions League in the midweek fixture.
