Manchester United star Chris Smalling has revealed how the dressing room felt after Sir Alex Ferguson and Eric Cantona arrived following the superb win over PSG.
The Englishman was instrumental in his side’s comeback victory that saw the club overturn a 2-0 first leg loss in the Champions League round of 16.
United will now advance to the quarter-finals of Europe’s biggest competition on the away goals rule having beaten the French champions 3-1 in Paris.
The historic win saw Smalling and his teammates celebrate wildly after the full-time whistle.
Footage was posted online of the dressing room as well as celebrations from around the globe due to the nature of the victory.
According to Sky Sports, Chris said: “It was [lively in the changing room] – moments like that you’ve got to savour and take in. Obviously seeing Eric [Cantona] in the changing room and Sir Alex, you could tell everyone was together.
“It was great to see everyone come together, all the board, the owners, and then seeing Eric come through with everyone singing his name, it was just a really good vibe.
“Sir Alex came around and shook everyone’s hand, saying congratulations, Eric said a little bit, that he was proud to watch the team play and win like that. Generally happy vibes.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has often opted to use the influence of former players or staff at the club to get through his current crop of players during his short tenure so far.
Sir Alex in particular is said to have been brought around a few times while other former stars have come to training sessions such as Rio Ferdinand.
Whatever Solskjaer is doing, it’s clearly working given how his only defeat since he arrived in December was against PSG which he subsequently turned in his and United’s favour.
