Manchester United are reportedly hoping for a breakthrough in negotiations with David de Gea over a new contract.
The Spaniard’s deal initially was set to end this summer but a contract extension was triggered to buy the club some time.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have helped with securing De Gea’s future with both parties unwilling to settle for a compromise.
The former Atletico Madrid man is said to be keen on getting a pay rise that matches his superb talent as one of, if not the club’s talent.
Alexis Sanchez’s arrival is said to have caused problems with many of the club’s stars who feel he shouldn’t be earning far more than them.
According to ESPN FC, the Red Devils are pushing for a breakthrough in negotiations despite their reluctance to make David their highest earning player.
The club want to avoid letting the goalkeeper’s contract reach it’s last year this summer and hope he will settle for a compromise which will see him earn £350k a week for five years.
Many Manchester United fans feel De Gea should earn whatever he wants given how he’s arguably their best player as well as how he’s consistently maintained high levels of performances over the years.
