Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes Maurizio Sarri dealt with the situation between himself and Kepa Arrizabalaga “very well” in the fallout to the Carabao Cup final incident, according to Goal.
The goalkeeper sparked a furious reaction from the current Blues boss Sarri, after he refused to come off as a substitute in last weekend’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
Kepa was fined in the days following the incident and dropped by his boss for Chelsea’s midweek clash with Tottenham for Willy Caballero, who kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 victory over Spurs.
Sarri recalled the former Athletic Bilbao star for the Blues’ trip to Fulham on Sunday afternoon, and Mourinho praised the Chelsea boss’ handling of the situation with the Spanish goalkeeper.
He said:
If Chelsea had lost the game against Tottenham and Kepa was out, Sarri would have been in a big trouble. He handled the situation very well. It was just a misunderstanding, Sarri clarified the whole thing and Kepa apologized, the goalkeeper does not like to make a scene and the reaction of Sarri during the game made things look ugly.
I am happy, Chelsea won against Tottenham because that result brought stability to their dressing room.
The Blues made it back-to-back derby wins on Sunday, following up the midweek victory over Spurs with a narrow 2-1 win against Fulham.
