'Depay might want Man United return': Ed Woodward on red alert

Former Arsenal star Robert Pires has hinted that Memphis Depay may return to Manchester United after a spell in France.

The Dutchman has enjoyed his time in Ligue 1, growing into a quality player that has seen him linked with the best in Europe.

Depay left United during Jose Mourinho’s reign though a buy-back clause is said to have been included in his sale.

Pires believes the winger will feel as though he has unfinished business in England and will be tempted with a return.

Memphis’ struggles with the Red Devils was always broken up with spells of brilliance that proved he does have quality and it was just a matter of showing it consistently.

According to Team Talk, Robert said: “I think Depay wants to come back to the Premier League and he feels he has unfinished business in England.

“It didn’t work out for him at Manchester United and Depay is a very proud player. He perhaps feels he wasn’t given a chance to perform and earn the right to stay longer considering he was so young and showed glimpses of undoubted potential.

“Depay might want to return to Manchester United or he might be motivated to prove them wrong by performing for one of their rivals in the Premier League.”

The Lyon star has openly discussed a desire to leave and it’s said that he’s had a falling out with a senior member at the club.

Manchester United may be hesitant to invest in him because of that but he does fit the mould of player they’re looking to buy according to reports.

Some sections of the media have claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be made the permanent manager of the club and he is targeting a right-winger amongst other positions.

If a buy-back clause really is included in Depay’s contract then it would mean United won’t have to overspend to bring in a quality player.
