Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud was coy when discussing his role at the club after the 5-0 win over Dynamo Kiev on Thursday.
The Frenchman lined up for the Blues as they progressed to the quarter-finals of the Europa League after sealing a comprehensive 8-0 aggregate victory over their Ukrainian counterparts.
Giroud was in fine form against Dynamo Kiev and netted his first ever hat-trick in Chelsea colours.
Goals from Marcos Alonso and Callum Hudson-Odoi complemented the experienced forward’s standout display, with the Blues now poised for a two-legged quarter-final encounter with Slavia Prague.
Following the match, Giroud was quizzed about whether or not he is content with his current role as a rotational option under Maurizio Sarri. As quoted by BT Sport, he was defiant in his answer and said:
No. No chance. I’m a competitor. I have been through a lot of tough moments in my career. I just want to enjoy playing football after winning the World Cup last summer.
I want to play every single game and to be happy on the pitch. But I am not picking the team, the manager makes some choices.
The ex-Arsenal star kept quiet about what the future may hold for him but reiterated that he was happy to have helped Chelsea advance to the final eight of the Europa League. Giroud said:
I play in the Europa League and I am happy to help the team to go through the stages, step by step. The target is clearly to win it. The championship [Premier League] is another thing, you know? Now we don’t know about the future – who can say? We’ll see.
