Spanish football expert Graham Hunter believes Atletico Madrid is the perfect club for Alvaro Morata following his loan move from Chelsea in January.
The Spaniard has hit the ground running with Atleti and the striker has scored three goals in five appearances in La Liga, as well as creating one assist.
Morata began his career at Stamford Bridge in similar fashion, scoring six goals in his opening six games for the Blues, before his inconsistencies in front of goal began.
After scoring nine goals and creating four assists in the first half of last season, the striker scored just twice after Christmas, and his frustrations were evident for all to see at the start of this campaign.
Following his loan move to Atletico, however, the 26-year-old seems to have rediscovered his form, and in his column for ESPN, Hunter believes Atleti is the perfect club for the Spaniard.
He’s in the right place. Not just personally, but he’s part of a team that will work for him. He’s part of the spearhead of an Atleti unit that runs, tackles, presses and re-organises so that the strikers can have time and space to score. He’s part of a squad where he’s friendly (and football-confident) with Koke: after all, they won the European U21 Championship together.
He’s part of a squad where one of the few players who resembles Hazard’s skill set, Antoine Griezmann, will be equally adept at both serving Morata with goal chances and profiting from the unselfish work the Spaniard is always willing to put in for his strike partner.
Furthermore, Hunter argues that Morata still has the potential, even at 26, to do “great things” in his career and has challenged the Spaniard to take the next step to becoming a top striker.
So far, Morata looks lithe, happy, daring and fit, and he’s scoring goals. Long may that continue. This is a guy who, when he’s cheerful, confident, fit and feeling trusted, is not only wonderful, impish company but who, I promise you, is capable of great things. So, will the real Alvaro Morata now please step forward… and keep on going forwards.
