Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes Maurizio Sarri could be on his way out of Chelsea at the end of the season.
Speaking to Bwin, the former French winger also talked up a Premier League move for his fellow countryman and ex-Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.
It’s a very strange situation with Chelsea and how they treat their managers. [Maurizio] Sarri is a very good manager and he performed very well with Napoli, but it’s hard to see him at the club next season. There appears to be a lot of player power at Chelsea that he is struggling to overcome like many have before him.
I think Zidane would be a very good appointment at Chelsea. He would demand respect from the Chelsea players and control the dressing room as a result of everything he has achieved both on the pitch as a player and on the bench as a manager. He’s a winner and a warrior. He’s had great success in the Champions League which is attractive to the Chelsea owner. It would be very good news for the Premier League if Zidane moved to England.
The latter has been linked with the Chelsea job, with the three-time Champions League winner still out of work after leaving Real Madrid.
Sarri has seen questions mount over his future at Stamford Bridge after a difficult few weeks, but the Italian has managed to cool any imminent speculation with an improved run of form.
Progression in the Europa League and a win over Tottenham have eased some fears among those at Stamford Bridge.
‘Zizou’ and Steve Holland have been the early candidates to replace Sarri if he is sacked, although the latter is only likely to be a short-term appointment until the end of the season.
