Chelsea boss has his say after win against Fulham

Maurizio Sarri believes Chelsea’s victory over Fulham will give the squad confidence in the race for the top four, and states the Blues are starting to put in consistent performances after back-to-back league wins, according to Fooball.london.

Gonzalo Higuain gave Chelsea the lead at Craven Cottage with a smart finish before sloppy defending allowed the home side to equalise through Calum Chambers.

Jorginho finished well from the edge of the area to put the Blues back ahead before half time and Sarri’s side edged out a 2-1 win to move within two points of Manchester United in fourth, with a game in hand over them and Arsenal in fifth.

And Sarri revealed after the game that he is happy with the confidence boosting victory against Fulham.

Today we had a great opportunity I think because we were five points to the top four with two matches. Now we are only two points. It is not easy, we have to fight to the last minute of the last match. We are fighting.

In the last four matches we have done well. It was important the Carabao Cup final, we lost on penalties but after the last match at City, in the final we played at the same level as Manchester City. It was important for our confidence. I think that a minimum of consistency has arrived.

The Blues survived a late scare at Craven Cottage, with Kepa Arrizabalaga forced into action from Aleksander Mitrovic’s header before Ryan Sessegnon’s late effort was ruled out for offside.

And Sarri believes a little bit of fatigue set in with his players after going all the way to penalties against City last weekend before league games against Tottenham and Fulham.

I think that we played very well for 60 minutes. We didn’t kill the match and in the last 20 minutes we were very tired. In the seven days we played 120 minutes against City, then 90 minutes against Spurs and then today it was an important derby. It was a difficult match. Very well for 60 minutes but then very tired.
