Manchester United remain confident in agreeing a new £350,000-a-week contract with David de Gea but talks are being held up by concerns over agent fees, according to reports.
De Gea had a one-year extension clause triggered on his contract back in November which keeps him at the club until the end of next season.
The club is prepared to recognise De Gea’s status as the world’s best keeper by handing him a five year deal and wages worth £350-000-a-week.
And according to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, Man United are confident in striking an agreement with De Gea, who wants to stay at the club, but there is still some way to go in agreeing the fee paid to agents negotiating the deal on De Gea’s behalf.
Negotiations with De Gea commenced over a year ago and have progressed slowly, although United’s readiness to place the Spaniard in their top bracket of earners – along with Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba – constitutes an important step in the right direction. There has always been a feeling that De Gea does want to stay at Old Trafford.
But there remain boxes to tick, questions to answer. And supporters will wait anxiously until they are. No player at this club is more important than De Gea.
