Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that new contracts for David de Gea and Anthony Martial could be finalised over the ‘coming weeks’.
Various outlets from both England and France, including the BBC and Telefoot, have indicated that significant progress had been made in talks with Martial’s representatives over the last two weeks.
And it has been claimed by ESPN’s Rob Dawson, a reliable source on Man United, that De Gea is likewise happy to commit his future to Old Trafford, but only if he receives a wage packet on par with Alexis Sanchez, the club’s highest earner.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Solskjaer noted that talks were heading in the right direction and suggested contracts for the pair could be finalised over the next few weeks.
“I think the club’s making progress but I leave that to the right people to do that I don’t know really how far we are away from it but hopefully we’re going to have some good news in the coming weeks,” he said.
In the summer we found ourselves in a position of concrete uncertainty regarding Martial and De Gea. The former appeared to be off, but we couldn’t be sure; the latter appeared to be staying, but we couldn’t be sure.
And while nothing is confirmed as of yet, a feeling of the pendulum swinging in a certain direction is impossible to ignore.
